Rational Argument

     There were two challenges in writing the Rational Argument this time. The first was deciding on a theme. At first I thought I would write about the theme of the Microtheme assignment, which was the dangers of modern social media usage. However, as I was writing, I suddenly found this theme boring and didn't want to write about it anymore. I quit the theme, but I was struggling to come up with the next idea. During a break, I was watching youtube and saw a video about modern women's obsession with beauty and the diseases that result from it. I watched the video and came up with the theme of "Excessive Emphasis on Beauty" which I wrote about in my Rational Argument.

    Another challenge was to find literature. As mentioned above, I suddenly changed the theme, so I needed more time to look for references and was very frustrated. However, I found the article by attending a session at the library, where I was taught the definition of an academic journal and how to search for it.

    As I researched the beauty ailments that women have today to write the Rational Argument paper, I realized that this is no one else's problem. Several people around me have had plastic surgery, especially in East Asia, such as Korea and Japan, where it is pretty standard to have plastic surgery, and I was reminded that this current situation is scary. I have also wanted to have plastic surgery several times, and I think it was because I was not confident in myself or because I compared myself with Instagrammers and wanted to be like them. From now on, I would like to like myself without comparing myself to others.
